We recommend: Homemade Taramosalata (´fish roe salad´) is traditionally made from taramas, the salted and cured roe of the cod and is mixed with either bread crumbs or mashed potato, lemon juice, vinegar and olive oil. It is usually eaten cold and as a dip.
The best place for lunch in Monastiraki is ´Thanasis´. On the menu you found skewers of prime ground beef wrapped in grilled pita, along with grilled green peppers and salads. (Mitropoleos 69)
The restaurant offers delicious ´Feta Üsiti´, which is baked feta cheese. The one from Paradosiako´s is baked with olive oil, tomato and parsley inside a ceramic dish. The moussaka is also worth to try, it is composed the Greek way and features a layer of sliced boiled potatoes on the bottom and layers of eggplant and ground beef in the middle, all topped with a hearty béchamel sauce.
The ´Thissio View´ serves a good brunch and breakfast variety. But in the late hours it´s also nice to see illuminated Athens from here. (25 Apostolou Pavlou)
