Amman ( ; ʿAmmān) is the capital and largest city of Jordan. It is the area's political, cultural and commercial centre and one of the oldest continuously inhabited cities in the world. The city has the population of 2,842,629 as of 2011. On the other hand, Amman and the towns and cities surrounding it form the Greater Amman Municipality, a metropolitan area of around 5.1 million people once Zarqa City is included, making it the country's and the Levant's largest metropolitan area; the population increased from 2005 by around 1 million in the city and almost 2.5 millions in the metropolitan area; the population of the City is expected to jump from 2.8 million to almost 7 million by 2025 due to constant and rapid immigration. Amman is also the administrative seat of the homonymous governorate.
Amman was named one of the area's best cities according to economic, labour, environmental, and socio-cultural factors.
