Van Wesenbekestraat

Orientation & Geography

Europe, Belgium, Antwerp

Van Wesenbekestraat is the street in Antwerp (Belgium) where the little Chinatown of the city is settled. It contains a lot of Asian restaurants, the biggest Asian supermarket in the country (named Sun Wah), a Buddhist temple and a school for mastering kungfu. Both at the entrance and the end of the street, two Chinese lions guard the inhabitants. The street is decorated with flags and dragon-shaped streetlights to express its typical character. The arrival of its long expected Chinese gate has been delayed due to safety concerns from the public transport company De Lijn (as there is a pre-metro station under the street) and complaints from a snack bar that doesn't want the gate in front of its shop.
