Brixton is a district in south London, England, in the London Borough of Lambeth. It is 3.8 miles (6.1 km) south south-east of Charing Cross. The area is identified in the London Plan as one of 35 major centres in Greater London.
Brixton is predominantly residential with a prominent street market and substantial retail sector. It is a multiethnic community, with around 24 percent of Brixton's population being of African and Caribbean descent, giving rise to Brixton as the unofficial capital of the British African-Caribbean community. Brixton is in Inner–South London and is bordered by Stockwell, Clapham, Streatham, Camberwell, Tulse Hill and Herne Hill. Brixton houses the main offices of the London Borough of Lambeth.
