The Langkawi Cable Car or Panorama Langkawi Cable Car is a major attractions in Langkawi Island, Kedah, Malaysia. It provides an aerial link from Burau Bay Resort at Teluk Burau to the peak of Gunung Machinchang, the location of the Langkawi Sky Bridge. The total length is 2.2 km (1.4 miles). It was officially opened on 2003.
Langkawi Cable Car is located at Oriental Village, a theme shopping centre housing in 30 individually designed buildings showcasing Malaysian and Oriental architecture. It is located on the southwestern coast of the main island of Langkawi, is just a 40 minutes drive from Kuah town and 15 minutes drive from Langkawi International Airport.
ATTRACTIONS
Base Station
The Base Station is conveniently located at the Oriental Village (at the foot hill of the Machincang mountain range). This integration between the Oriental Village and the Gunung Machinchang forest reserve complements each other to higher mutual benefit. From here, visitors will be taken up to the cool Machincang range via the Langkawi Cable Car on new and modern gondolas giving the visitors panoramic views of the surroundings forests, the Telaga Tujuh (Seven Wells) waterfall as well as the sea.
Visitors will glide above verdant rainforests and the ride itself will be exhilarating experience. They will also be able to catch glimpses of eagles, hornbills and assortment of birds and wild life along the route up.
Middle Station
An intermediate Cable Car station on the eastern ridges provides the much desired access to the eastern cliffs with its 3 vertical chimneys and the beautiful 360-degree views. For the first time, visitors would be able to observe at close range the unique rock formations geological features of the Machincang range, which was formed 500 million years ago during the Cambrian period, in geological terms.
The journey from the Base Station to Middle Station will cover 1,700 meters in length and upon reaching the Middle Station at an elevation of 650m above sea level, visitors will be able to alight and walk up to the viewing platforms.
Visitors will enjoy panoramic view of the main island as well as the many surrounding islands. They will also be able to observe at close range the unique flora on the ridges and the forested valley between the Middle Station and the Top Station. After enjoying the beautiful view, visitors will then board back the gondolas, which will take them another 450 meters up to the Top Station.
Top Station
A short walk up the stairs from the Top Station will take visitors to the two (2) viewing platforms at the top of Gunung Machinchang, the climax of the trip. Visitors will be amazed at the unfolding dramatic views from the platforms, the many unique and exciting features of Machincang, are dominating rock tower peaks providing spectacular 360-degree panoramic views of the Langkawi islands, Kedah and Southern Thailand as well as dramatic views of the deep chasms, overhangs cliff walls, isolated pinnacles and some caves. Such nature monuments are seldom seen anywhere else in this combination except in Langkawi.
The over-ruling height of Gunung Machinchang (708m), its commanding views over Langkawi, the western sea-coast, and the dramatic views over the funnel with its staggered rock blocks will make the visitors wonder in amazement and bring the visitors so close to nature that they can practically touch it!
A cafe at the Top Station offers delicious refreshments and unbeatable views with refreshing cool breezes, which allow visitors to enjoy Sunsets at 708m above sea-level is about 5 degrees Celcius (+/-) cooler than lowlands.
